Designing a multi-role SaaS learning platform for Nova
Nova is a web and mobile learning platform created for learners, mentors, course managers, and administrators. The product needed to support course creation, structured learning pathways, group collaboration, questions, feedback, and messaging without becoming difficult to manage.
I designed multiple connected SaaS experiences and worked with product managers, business stakeholders, and engineers to translate complex requirements into clear user journeys and a consistent product system.
PROJECT DETAILS
Role: Product Designer
Platforms: Web and Mobile Applications
Scope: Product discovery, user flows, UX design, UI design, design systems and developer collaboration
Users: Learners, mentors, course managers and administrators
The challenge
Nova served several user groups with different responsibilities. The challenge was to give each user the tools they needed while keeping the overall product consistent and easy to understand.
Different roles needed different journeys
Learners, mentors, course managers, and administrators each required focused navigation, permissions, and workflows.
Course creation was complex
Course managers needed to organise goals, activities, written content, media, feedback, and publishing within one manageable process.
Learning templates were difficult to update
Administrators needed to edit and duplicate pathway templates while understanding how changes would affect existing and future learners.
Learners needed accessible support
Students required simple ways to ask questions, receive feedback, participate in groups, and communicate directly with mentors.
The solution
I designed a role-based product system that brings course management, collaborative learning, communication, and pathway administration into one connected experience.
Role-specific product experiences
Each user type receives focused navigation and tools based on what they need to accomplish.
A guided course builder
Course managers can organise objectives, content, media, activities, feedback, and publishing through a structured creation flow.
Collaborative learning tools
Public and private questions, group discussions, feedback, and direct messaging give learners multiple ways to receive support.
Flexible pathway templates
Administrators can duplicate templates, add or edit steps and activities, and control how changes apply to current and upcoming participants.
Creating consistency across multiple applications
I developed and maintained shared design patterns so the web and mobile applications could grow without becoming visually or behaviourally inconsistent. The system helped product and engineering teams reuse established components and make future product decisions more efficiently.
The outcome
The redesigned experience brought multiple user roles and learning workflows into one coherent platform. Course creation became more structured, learners gained clearer ways to get help, and administrators could manage evolving learning pathways with greater control.
Role-specific experiences within one connected platform.
A structured workflow for course creation and publishing.
Multiple ways for learners to ask questions and receive support.
More manageable pathway and template administration.
What the product manager said
"Sukant had a methodical approach to solving problems.
He does well at reseaching different options available to represent a feature flow.
He has a strong understanding of colours, brand guidelines and design language.
He is able to think logically and build thought maps of a feature before going into detailed design."
